Dr Onyoja Momoh was invited to present on Family and Guardianship Law in relation to Poland – the UK’s perspective; the visit was filled with a very warm welcome and engaging discussions with Dr Anna Wysocka-Bar and colleagues. The conference, held on 18 and 19th May 2023, was jointly organised by theFaculty of Law and Administration, Jagiellonian University, and the Association of Civil Status Registrars of the Republic of Poland. The first day of the conference explored cross-border family cases and the work of civil status registrars. Onyoja presented on day two, looking at the intersection between the two jurisdictions from three child law perspectives (1) public law children cases, e.g., kinship placements abroad and the role of the 1996 Hague Convention (2) private law children cases, e.g., private law adoption (typically involving a stepparent) and, (3) parental child abduction cases (1980 Hague Convention) including transnational contact (Article 21); exploring issues around jurisdiction, recognition, and enforcement of orders.
