The event is organized under the auspices of the Digital in Law project, co-funded by Erasmus-plus Programme of the European Union.The objectives of the events are to: 1) stimulate the PhD students’ critical thinking and to 2) extend and redefine their existing knowledge considering digital technologies in law.

The event will bring together the project team and approximately 20 PhD students to discuss selected aspects of the topic “European Private International in Digital World”. The discussion will be split into two panels, each of which will focus on a different sub-topic of the Book Club theme. The first panel will focus on jurisdiction in digital world and the second panel on cross-border family law in digital world. In preparation for the event, the participants will be instructed to read selected reading materials. The Book Club discussion will centre around these sources, with the aim of stimulating the participating PhD students’ critical thinking and helping them extend and redefine their existing knowledge about digital technologies in law. 

Format of the event and discussion topics: 

10.00 - 11.30 - Topic 1 – Jurisdiction in Digital World: Focus on the Extraterritorial Effects of the General Data Protection Regulation and the EU Commission’s Proposal AI Act 

11.30 - 12.30 - Lunch break

12.30 – 14.00 - Topic 2 – Cross-Border Family Law in Digital World: Judicial & Administrative Co-operation and the Use of High-Risk AI Tools in Cross-Border Family Litigation
