Update From the First Intake
The School of Law introduced an LLB with English Law last year, and the first intake of students are already enjoying the benefits. The new programme allows students at Aberdeen the opportunity to study law more widely as well as giving them more options as they consider their future careers, and is fully accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and validated by the Joint Academic Standards Board of England and Wales of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board.
Dr Abbe Brown, Programme Director of the course, is pleased with the early feedback received on the course.
She said: “It is very exciting that the University of Aberdeen can offer this course, which provides students with extra opportunities and scope to enhance their further career prospects. So far the feedback from the first intake of students has been very positive and they seem to be enjoying learning Scots and English law alongside each other. I look forward to following their progress and seeing where their qualifications take them.”
Students come from near and far to study Law at Aberdeen. These testimonials are from several students who are part of the first intake of the LLB with English Law programme.
“I knew this was a prestigious University and the opportunity to study in Scotland and learn both Scots and English law was really appealing. I expected that in order to study here, I would have to also complete an English Conversion course – and while I had accepted that in order to further my career, the benefit of now doing both here is just fantastic.”

“I always wanted to study at Aberdeen and when the opportunity came up to do the new course I thought it was just fantastic to be able to come here and know that I can study both Scots and English Law at the same time, saving myself the time and expense of doing a conversion course after graduation.”
Bethany Ingham, 19, Lake District, England
“Aberdeen has such a fantastic reputation as an excellent place to come and study law, that I knew this was where I wanted to be. But the added benefit of being able to study both Scots and English law really makes this the place to be! Having been here a wee while now, the course is definitely meeting my high expectations! I’m actually finding it really useful studying both as it makes it easier to differentiate between the two systems studying them alongside each other.”
