The School of Law are saddened to hear of the unexpected death of a much-loved colleague and friend, Jackie Ewen, who passed away this weekend.
Jackie had worked in the Law School since March 2009 and provided administrative support for the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice and Level 3 students and had provided diary support for successive Heads of School. In addition, she had previously provided administrative support for the Professional Competence Course, and she clerked the Employers Liaison Committee and the meetings of the Athena SWAN SAT team.
Head of School, Professor Greg Gordon, worked closely with Jackie on the Professional Competence Course for a couple of years after her arrival and got to know her well. He says “Jackie was very much a people person and used to particularly enjoy her interactions with the students and external tutors. She took a real interest in student welfare, becoming a Mental Health First Aider, and was always pleased to hear how our alumni were getting on”.
Jackie was a very devoted daughter to her father. She is survived not only by him but also by her daughters, Laura and Chloe. She was a doting grandmother to her two grandsons Noah and Finley.
Jackie is remembered fondly by colleagues as someone who was friendly, lively and loved to sing. Sometimes in corridors, while people were conducting meetings.
Her death has come as a shock to colleagues. She will be sadly missed.
Staff and students are reminded about the Chaplaincy and support services and are encouraged to make contact should they require support.
