Dr Thomas L Muinzer, Co-Director of the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law, provided evidence to the Parliament in the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 27th October over a 2 hour live session in the afternoon (1:30-3:30), along with Jonathan Church of Client Earth. The Irish have an Amendment Bill that proposes to amend Ireland’s faltering 2015 Climate Act. The Bill is at the pre-legislative scrutiny stage, and Dr Muinzer and Mr Church appeared before the Parliament’s Joint Committee on Climate Action.
Dr Muinzer, also recently completed work as a member of the Working Group tasked with drafting a Climate Bill for Northern Ireland. The group’s work was led by solicitor Anurag Deb, and resulted in a Climate Change (Northern Ireland) Bill being lodged at the Speaker’s Office at Northern Ireland’s devolved parliament. Claire Bailey MLA of the Greens will be taking it forward in the parliament as a private members bill.
