Dr. Douglas Bain and Dr. Andrew Simpson have both contributed to volume partly edited by former School of Law Lecturer Mr. Malcolm Combe. Land Reform in Scotland: History, Law, and Policy was published by Edinburgh University Press and contains the chapters ‘Scottish Residential Tenancies’ by Dr. Bain and ‘Earth and Stone: History, Law, and Land through the Lens of Sasine’ by Dr. Simpson.
The book is a stimulating review of contemporary land reform in Scotland and offers a holistic approach to the issue. It draws on case studies of land policies from across the UK, mainland Europe and the USA to allow comparison to Scottish Land to allow contextualisation. It also examines the significance of right to property on the land reform process and looks at how it is now being used as an impetus for economic and social rights reform.
