Dr Yiallourides recently presented a paper at the Kobe Workshop on International Law, hosted by the University of Kobe, Japan. This year, the Workshop discussed the legal ramifications of Japan’s decision to withdraw from the International Convention on the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW) and resume commercial whaling from 1 July 2019. Dr Yiallourides’ paper, entitled 'Japanese Ocean Policy and Whaling' provided an analysis of Japan’s policy approach towards the management, conservation and sustainable use of marine living resources with a particular focus on commercial whaling.
The paper will be published in a special issue of the International Community Law Review, edited by Prof Malgosia Fitzmaurice of Queen Mary University of London.
