Our Professor Tina Hunter presented a paper titled 'Real property law in pre- and post-Soviet Russia: has the Revolution altered Russia's legal regime?' in Oslo at a conference: 'Russian Revolution in the Nordic Perspective' in November. Tina has a long-standing interest in the Russian Revolution, and Russian legal culture post-Soviet Union. Meanwhile, petroleum is a research specialty, and she has an interest in real property law. This paper is within the petroleum context as many of the Oligarchs were made rich by the dispersement of real property in the form of petroleum assets after the fall of the Soviet Union. It therefore assesses what the law was, and why it allows oligarchs to emerge.
