'Natural resources in the Arab States: the Cases of Saudi Arabia and Iraq'

Dr Bawar Bammarny from the University of Heidelberg will speak on, 'Natural resources in the Arab States: the Cases of Saudi Arabia and Iraq' as part of the Law School's research seminar series 2013-14.

The Arab shaped oil-producing countries have huge petroleum reserves that constitute the biggest share of the world’s oil resources and are therefore essential for the global economy.

In this seminar the natural resources law and in particular oil law in the two most important oil producers among Arab states will be presented, namely in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The Islamic law of the Hanbali school applying in Saudi Arabia will be analysed. The seminar will then study the controversy between the state of Iraq and the region of Kurdistan regarding access to oil in Iraq.
