"Universalism or Particularism of Human Rights"

Professor Charles Leben from the University of Paris 2 will speak on "Universalism or Particularism of Human Rights", as part of the Law School's research seminar series 2013-14.

Human rights are a recent product of international law. There is however a debate about the international character of human rights. Is it possible to have a single set of human rights or is the content of human rights variable according to cultural, religious and political backgrounds?

Professor Leben will give a lecture on “Universalism or Particularism of Human Rights”, insisting on the question whether there is a European conception of human rights. The lecture will be followed by a discussion.

Charles Leben is Professor of Public Law at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2) and the former director of the Institute for Higher International Studies of the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2) in France. Professor Leben published numeral academic works in international economic law and the theory of the law.
