Guest Lecture - Investor Protection against Cuts to Renewable Energy Subsidies: the Belgian Experience

Mr. De Coninck will speak about “Investor Protection against Cuts to Renewable Energy Subsidies: the Belgian Experience”. This presentation will discuss recent regulatory changes to the support of renewable energy investments in Belgium. Jeroen De Coninck will examine whether the right to property and the principles of legal certainty and protection of legitimate expectations can offer adequate protection to renewable energy investors that have based their business case on promises of public support.

The objective of this seminar is to provide a practitioner’s perspective to the issue of investor protection in the energy sector. Anatole Boute will introduce the theoretical framework of this discussion based on his article “The Quest for Regulatory Stability in the EU Energy Market: An Analysis through the Prism of Legal Certainty” (2012) 37 European Law Review 675-692.
