What are expedited procedures in international arbitration? Why do we have them? How do they work in practice? After a brief introduction to the fundamentals of international arbitration, this seminar will address the two broad types of expedited procedures being “Fast Track Arbitration” and “Summary Dispositions” in international commercial arbitration and international investment arbitration, with the help of relevant case studies.

About Rahul Donde:

A “Rising Star” (Expert Guides, 2019; Legal 500, 2020) and “Future Leader” (Who’s Who Legal, 2020) in international arbitration, Rahul Donde specializes in international commercial and investment arbitration. He has acted as arbitrator, counsel, secretary and assistant of the arbitral tribunal in over 30 international arbitration proceedings under both ad hoc (UNCITRAL, Swiss PILA and others) and institutional arbitration rules (ICC, LCIA, SIAC, ICSID and others). Rahul has specific experience in disputes relating to utilities, natural resources (water, oil, gas, renewable energy), commercial (agency, distribution, sales, purchase, services agreements) and corporate laws in different jurisdictions. Having worked in Switzerland and India for several years, Rahul has expertise in high-value, complex commercial disputes in both common law and civil law systems.

 

Rahul is empanelled as an arbitrator with all major international arbitral institutions. As counsel, he has advised multinational companies in cross-border construction and commercial disputes and assisted parties in annulment proceedings before the Swiss Federal Tribunal. Besides, he has considerable experience representing clients in domestic disputes in India, including appearing before various judicial and quasi-judicial bodies including the Bombay High Court.

 

Rahul is the co-editor of the first-ever TDM Special on dispute resolution in India. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Thailand Arbitration Centre and the Centre for Advanced Research in Dispute Settlement. He is the Global Events Director of Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (Young ICCA), and he is also a Steering Committee Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Young Members Group as well as the member of the Asia-Pacific Forum for International Arbitration. He is regularly invited to lectures, speaks at conferences and conducts workshops organized by the ICC Word Business Institute, UN organizations, universities in Asia and in Europe and others. His publications cover topics of current interest in technology, water, energy law and international arbitration.
