The School of Law is delighted to announce the winners of the Law Prizes 2014. 

  • Michael Thorburn was awarded the Cloch Prize for the best Intellectual Property (IP) dissertation.
  • Gordon Belch was awarded the Robert Milne Prize first prize for the most improved student between years three and four.
  • Myles Cormack was awarded the Williamson Prize, first place, for his dissertation titled 'Capital maintenance and creditor protection; do the rules provide adequate protection?', and the Cruickshank Law Prize as the best honours graduate.
  • Jamie Steel was awarded joint second place Williamson Prize for her dissertation titled 'Preventive detention in Germany and England…the way forward'.
  • Seonaid Cochrane was awarded joint second place Williamson Prize for her dissertation titled 'International relocation of resident parents – a comparative discussion on the approach in Scotland and other jurisdictions. Proposal for future direction’.
  • Ida Fossem was awarded the McFarland Prize for demonstrating excellent grades throughout her courses and a commitment to Law through extra-curricular interests and abilities.
  • Victoria Blair was awarded the Baldred Bisset Prize as the best student in the Scottish Legal History course (LS2028).
  • Catriona MacQueen and Nikola Tait were jointly awarded the Davidson Chalmers Prize for their examination results in Commercial Organisations and Insolvency (LS2525), Evidence (LS3025) and Commercial and Consumer Contracts (LS3525).
  • Rhea Shearer was awarded the David M Sutherland Prize in Forensic Medicine as the best LLB student in the level 2 course.
  • Hannah Garrick was awarded the Edmond Prize in Law for having the best record in the classes of Criminal Law, Contract, Delict, Property, Family Law and Land Law.
  • Sarah Kerr was awarded a Family Law Association Prize for being the best student in the course LS2526 Family Law, and the George & Alexander Greig Prize in Scots Law as the most distinguished student in Property Law and Family Law.
  • Jennifer Liddell was awarded a Family Law Association Prize for the best overall performance in essay and examination in Honours Family Law.
  • Kimberley Neale was awarded the Franco-British Lawyers Society Prize for the best overall performance by a second-year student studying French and French Law.
  • Kieran Buxton was awarded the Green Prize in Law for showing distinction in subjects from his first year of study.
  • Natalie Milne was awarded the James Craig Howie Memorial Prize as the best overall student in the first year classes.
  • Dimitar Ivanov and Louise Sloan were jointly awarded the James Craig Howie Memorial Prize for the best overall second year students.
  • Vladimir Kucera was awarded the Lord President Cooper Prize in Comparative Law and Scottish Legal History.
  • Anda Pop was awarded the Shepherd & Wedderburn Prize in Law as the best student in Property Law.
