AUCEL hosts Professor Annalisa Savaresi for a seminar on just transition litigation

On 22 November, the AUCEL hosted Professor Annalisa Savaresi, who is the Professor of Environmental Law at the University of Stirling, UK and Professor of International Environmental Law at the Centre for Climate Change, Energy, University of Eastern Finland. Annalisa’s academic portfolio comprises more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and contributions to well-regarded collections, enjoying widespread citations, including by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In addition to her academic work, Annalisa serves as the Director for Europe within the Global Network on Human Rights and the Environment. She is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law. Annalisa has provided evidence to legislative bodies, including the UK, EU, and Scottish Parliaments. She currently sits on the Board of Environmental Standards Scotland, a body established under the UK Withdrawal from the European Union (Continuity) (Scotland) Act 2021, which oversees the compliance of Scottish public authorities with environmental law.

Annalisa presented the paper recenlty published in Nature journal, examining the concept of Just Transition litigation. Annalisa led a consortium of authors to engage with this emerging concept providing a new frame for identifying and understanding the diverse justice claims of those affected by climate action. AUCEL members, PGR researchers and PGT students learned about the systematic approach to case law review and the role of just transition in the decarbonisation processes.
