Dr Titilayo Adebola attended the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) Annual Conference at the University of Leeds, on 3 to 5 April. The conference brought together academics in the field of socio-legal studies to disseminate knowledge and foster networks.
Dr Adebola delivered a paper on: ‘Variations in Intellectual Property (IP) Governance in Africa: Attempts at Harmonisation.’ In summary, Dr Adebola presented a regime complex analysis of the overlapping, non-hierarchical array of actors and institutions as well as the contradictory systems and agreements governing IP in Africa alongside the current attempts at harmonisation through the Pan African Intellectual Property Organisation and African Continental Free Trade Area.
Dr Adebola's paper unpacked the: (i) drivers of the regime complex for IP in Africa (ii) consequences of these regime complexes (iii) challenges to harmonisation (iv) potentials of harmonisation (v) theoretical insights to the regime complex discourse.
