Future Legal Mind 2017 entry deadline extended to February 1st
The entry deadline for Future Legal Mind, a major award for UK undergraduate law students, has been extended by two weeks until February 1st.
Prizes for the award include a £5,000 cheque for the winner along with a work experience placement, as well as nine runner up prizes of £250 each.
Simon Trott, Managing Director of National Accident Helpline and chair of judges for Future Legal Mind, said: “We want to make sure all students who want to enter this year’s award have the chance to do so.
“By extending the entry deadline, we’re hoping that talented students who struggled to complete the entry process during the busy period of Christmas and New Year have an extra bit of time to put together their essays.”
To be in with a chance of the prize, entrants must submit an essay no longer than 1,300 words, with the winner published on Lawyer2B.com.
Students are asked the following question: “If eBay can resolve 60 million disputes each year, why does the UK civil justice system need lawyers?”
Amy Loughery, a former University of York student and winner of Future Legal Mind 2015, said the awards “really kick-started everything” for her.
“I’ve managed to acquire two part-time jobs through winning Future Legal Mind,” she explained. “It’s opened loads of doors for me and I’ve put the £5,000 aside to help fund my post-graduate study. It’s given me security.”
Future Legal Mind is a national award for UK resident students, set up by National Accident Helpline to recognise young legal talent.
The award, run in association with legal industry publication Lawyer 2B, is now an annual scheme following its successful launch in 2014, and aims to identify the next generation of high fliers in the legal world.
The judging panel for 2017 includes Simon Trott, Managing Director of National Accident Helpline, Richard Simmons, Editor of Lawyer 2B, and National Accident Helpline's Legal Director Jonathan White.
