The University of Aberdeen, founded by Bishop Elphinstone in 1495, marked its 525th year on Monday, 10 February with a special celebration which highlighted the University’s key milestones from the past and unveiled future plans embodied in its strategic vision ‘Aberdeen 2040.’ Aberdeen 2040 is anchored on the following four themes that define the University’s aspirations for the next twenty years: ‘international’, ‘interdisciplinary’, ‘inclusive’ and ‘sustainable.’ Law is one of the subjects that has been taught at the University since its foundation and commercial law has long been a significant pillar of the discipline given the history of international trade and commerce in the City of Aberdeen. Building on this rich heritage and excellence in the area of commercial law, the Centre for Commercial Law was established in 2018 at the School of Law to serve as a unique hub to promote research across corporate and commercial law, international trade law, intellectual property and technology law, and dispute resolution.
To celebrate the University of Aberdeen’s 525 anniversary, the Centre for Commercial Law is delighted to announce the launch of a blog series titled ‘Seeing Commercial Law from Different Perspectives.’ This series presents thought-provoking standpoints of the Centre Members (staff, postgraduate research students and associates) on researching, teaching, or practising commercial law. The posts in this series will be available here from Monday, 19 October 2020.
