Research Fellow, Engineering (ENG230RX)
The research fellow post is for the EU Horizon Europe project “MoWiLife” (Condition Monitoring and Wide bandgap power electronics – Leading Innovations For the European Energy sector). MoWiLIfe (2024-2027) builds 4 demonstrators utilising latest SiC MOSFET devices, including: 2 wind generator converters, MV DC-DC converter, and a 5 kV Medium Voltage DC Circuit Breaker. The consortium is led by Rostock University and involves 9 partners.
Job Description
The University of Aberdeen, as work package 6 leader, is responsible for the demonstrator related to Medium Voltage DC Circuit Breaker with SiC devices. We will utilise latest 2.3 kV SiC MOSFETs from Infineon (project partner) to build 5 kV DC CB expanding on the recent DC CB research at Aberdeen HVDC research centre. We will explore of benefits of SiC devices in DC CB application, using theoretical modelling, simulation and hardware experimentation, with the aim to steer technology development related to both: DC CBs and SiC MOSFET.
The Aberdeen HVDC Research Centre has around 10 members and considerable expertise in the area of HVDC, DC grids and power electronics. We have strong externally-funded research program and collaborative links with many major industry and academic players in Power industry. The research fellow will benefit from expert support within the group and association with School/University with strong research facilities and research excellence.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £37,999 - £41,421 per annum, with placement according to qualifications and experience. The post is for funding limited until 30th September 2027 (around 32 months).
