Service Description

The Remote Access service provides staff and students with secure, authenticated access to internal resources (such as personal and shared network filespace and web-based resources) from outwith the university network.

Features

f5 VPN

  • Secure, authenticated, 'always-on' connection for University managed laptops
  • Access to all facilities available on campus, including personal filespace (H: drive) and, where applicable, shared network drives

Web VPN

  • Secure, authenticated remote access solution for personal devices
  • Access via a web browser
  • Access to certain University systems and resources, such as MyHR.
  • You can access this service from many different platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android.

VDI

  • Secure, authenticated remote access solution for any device
  • Access via a web browser or VMWare client
  • Access to corporate applications, home drive, team drives, standard office software
  • Access to Internet/library resources normally only accessible on campus.
  • Does not allow for data transfer between your remote computer and campus

SFTP

  • Secure, authenticated remote access solution for any device
  • Access via SFTP client (e.g. FileZilla, WinSCP)
  • Access to your H drive
  • Access should be requested via Service Desk - servicedesk@abdn.ac.uk

  • Authorised External (e.g. consultants, visitors, etc.)

  • Registered Staff and Students of the University
  • Authorised External (e.g. consultants, visitors, etc.)
