We are in the process of retiring sysa, and we have migrated services and tools from sysa to linuxserv.
What is happening?
From today, please use linuxserv.abdn.ac.uk instead of sysa.
We are in the process of retiring sysa, and we have migrated services and tools from sysa to linuxserv.
What should you do?
Key changes to note
- linuxserv is not directly accessible externally in the way that sysa was. To access linuxserv from an external or eduroam connection you must first connect to your remote access solution (eg. VPN/VDI) and then connect to linuxserv.
- Binaries compiled for sysa will not run on linuxserv as it is x86/64 Redhat Enterprise Linux server; sysa was a sparc-based Solaris server.
- It is important that you review any executables and scripts you currently have running on sysa to make sure that they continue to work.
- If you had any business critical processes running on sysa that you can no longer perform, contact the IT Service Desk with full details.
FTP access
From Monday, the next time that you use ftp.abdn.ac.uk services, you will be prompted to accept a new security key because of sysa’s withdrawal. You won’t see any interruption to service but do need to accept the key.
External Access
Note that external access to sysa is being withdrawn on Thursday 3 December, as previously announced.
