Essential maintenance to restore resilience to services - all IT Services at risk, Sat 16 Dec.
What's happening?
All IT Services will be 'at risk' on Saturday 16 Dec, from 9am, for significant updates to our infrastructure.
University WiFi will be at risk between 8am-9am on Friday 15 Dec
At risk means you may experience temporary or longer interruptions in service.
We are scheduling outages outside of core working hours to minimise disruption.
Background
On the evening of Friday 1 December we experienced a critical failure within the virtual server infrastructure at the University. Almost all hosted services were impacted for 24 hours while we stabilised the environment.
The fixes applied were only temporary to get through the exam period without further outages. With the exams coming to an end we now need to make urgent changes to restore resilience ahead of the vacation period.
What are we doing in detail?
Saturday 16 Dec, all IT Services at risk
From 9am on Saturday 16 December there will be a significant update to the virtual server infrastructure. All IT Services will be ‘at risk’ all day on Saturday.
We anticipate that some services, such as Corporate Applications, may be impacted until Monday 18 December. Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide a complete list of services ‘at risk’ during this change period. We do aim to recover 99% of services during the day on Saturday.
Friday 15 Dec, Wireless Risk
To ensure that the University WiFi network remains online on Saturday we need to make a minor change tomorrow, Friday 15 December. University WiFi will be at risk from 8am for up to one hour. There will be no impact to any other services.
We would like to thank you for your understanding while we work on this critical repair.
