We are improving the login times on the STEM desktop in the VDI.
Only frequently used software such as Word and Excel will be loaded at login. Less frequently used software will be loaded on demand when you click on the software icon.
As a result, the way you open some applications and files in the STEM desktop will change.
Opening applications – do this by double-clicking the desktop shortcuts in the Common Applications/School based folders on the Desktop rather than using the Start menu.
File Associations – As some applications now only load on demand, if you try to open a saved file on your H drive or Onedrive, it won’t necessarily open the associated application.
- In such cases, open the application first, then open the file from within the application.
Why are we making this change?
We are introducing this change in order to improve the login performance and allow us to troubleshoot issues more effectively
We will continue to monitor application usage and for those applications that are used frequently, we will reintroduce the file associations as required.
