Changes to VDI Service

Changes to VDI Service

Planned maintenance to the VDI service between 9am-10am on Thursday 26th August

What is happening?

Planned maintenance to the VDI service between 9am-10am on Thursday 26th August.

The VDI service will still be available during this maintenance but once this has completed, you will notice the following changes within vClassroom environment in the VDI infrastructure:

  • The desktop will have changed (white background with University Logo).
  • Team drives will now be available from the designated drive letter (e.g. R, S & T etc).
  • It will no longer be possible to run applications directly from your H: drive. This is due to additional security features that we are implementing.

Why is this happening?

With COVID-19 restrictions being eased the number of available PCs within our computer classrooms has been reduced; we therefore plan to restore the VDI environment back to a virtual environment. Access via a virtual environment improves security and reduces the risk of local factors impacting the user experience.

Note: Physical classroom computers will still provide remote access to specialist pieces of software, please adhere to local signage indicating a computers availability for local use.
