IT services at risk overnight on Tues 31 October
What is happening?
There is a risk of outages to some IT services on Tuesday 31 October from 5pm while we conduct live testing of the power supply to the Garthdee Data Centre.
The services we expect to be affected are:
- Student H: drives and some staff H: drives
- VDI services including STEM VDI desktops
- Access to some shared drives
- Access to some corporate systems
There is risk of interruption to these services until 9am on Wednesday 1 November, although we do aim to complete the testing on Tuesday evening.
No other IT services should be affected.
Background
There has been a major failure with the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that feeds the IT data centre at Garthdee that we share with Robert Gordon University.
To diagnose the root cause of the problem we need to perform live load testing of the existing UPS. This live testing carries a very high risk of power loss and subsequent interruption to the services listed above.
