Part of the Centre for Genome Enabled Biology and Medicine (CGEBM) bioinformatics training course series, this course will introduce you to methods for quality control of second- and third-generation sequencing reads.
Second- and third-generation sequencing technologies produce large quantities of data, which include DNA sequence and base-by-base quality information. This workshop will demonstrate how to trim adaptor sequences and use sequence quality data to filter poor quality bases. Participants will be guided through relevant exercises using both the Galaxy graphical user interface and the command line interface to the Aberdeen High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. This Quality Control course is a prerequisite for further sequencing-related workshops run by the CGEBM.
Prerequisites: This course is relatively fast-paced, so participants will need to have taken the CGEBM Introduction to Unix and HPC course or have existing experience to be able to keep up. If you are in doubt about your existing qualifications, please email Louie van de Lagemaat to discuss.
