CGEBM supports teaching and research projects in biomolecular archaeology at the University of Aberdeen.
In our established collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, we have sequenced ancient materials prepared in the low copy DNA lab with two dedicated ISO Class-4 UV enabled cabinets, one UV-enabled still air PCR cabinet and the capabilities to extract DNA directly from bone. Some of the projects using this facility to date include WGS of single cell archaea, WGS of herbarium samples, rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of non-modern stool samples, fish vertebrae, pot fur and reindeer DNA, and WGS of ancient DNA from pigs. If you are interested in molecular analysis of ancient DNA, please contact Dr Linus Flink, who has a specialist interest in wet-lab DNA methodologies and novel approaches to molecular analysis of ancient samples.
