Modelling mRNA Translation
Studying how ribosome traffic regulates gene expression in the model organism of S. cerevisiae.
The Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology (ICSMB) has as its unifying intellectual theme the study of complex dynamics and its applications. Since applications of complex dynamics necessarily involve bridging gaps between abstract concepts, on the one hand, and the scientific disciplines, and engineering, medical and social fields where the applications occur, on the other, the Institute devotes special effort to facilitate cross-disciplinary contact and interaction in order to speed and facilitate progress. In particular, the theory of complex dynamical systems plays a central role in integrating mathematical developments with biological experiments. The synergistic developments in systems biology research are vigorously promoted and pursued by the Institute, covering a wide range of mathematical approaches used to uncover the general principles and mechanisms governing biological processes and function at all levels.
