ACER (Ageing Clinical and Experimental Research) team is cross cutting theme within the Institute of Applied Health Sciences, College of Life Sciences & Medicine, University of Aberdeen.

We are clinical and non-clinical academics who carry out inter-disciplinary research. We are also part of the NHS Grampian Academic Centre for Applied Clinical and Translational Research into Ageing (ACTRA). We have strong links with several research groups within the IAHS and other research institutes within the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition.

Objectives

  • To identify novel risk factors and improve understanding of the prognosis of conditions common in older age
  • To develop targeted and personalised clinical and service interventions to improve quality and safety in the health care and outcome of older people
  • To promote health and wellbeing of older people through research that will have a positive impact on their quality of life

Methodology

We use various methodologies spanning across a wide range of epidemiological approaches and we conduct both clinical and experimental research studies
