Biography

Alyaa Mostafa graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al Ainy - Cairo University, in 1997 and completed her training in obstetrics and gynaecology. She joined the University of Aberdeen in 2009 and is currently a Clinical Lecturer, focusing on advancing medical education and improving women’s health.

Alyaa earned an MD in Gynaecology in 2014 and a Diploma in Medical Education in 2017, both from the University of Aberdeen. With over 15 years in academia, she began as a research fellow in urogynaecology, with research spanning systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and multicentre randomised controlled trials to improve women’s quality of life.

Since 2017, Alyaa has been dedicated to teaching and curriculum development. She is the Deputy Lead for Year 1 of the MBChB program and Lead for the Year 1 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), organising assessments to evaluate and enhance students’ clinical skills.

In 2019, Alyaa launched the postgraduate course “Women’s Health in a Global Setting,” addressing global healthcare challenges and teaching strategies to improve women’s health worldwide.

Alyaa also supervises MSc and BSc students, oversees clinical skills training, and mentors medical students and Physician Associate students. Her work ensures education meets General Medical Council standards and contributes to training future medical professionals.

Alyaa was recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2024, highlighting her dedication to excellence in teaching, leadership, and the advancement of medical education.

This achievement reflects her dedication to advancing medical education and her commitment to fostering excellence in academic practice. The award underscores her expertise in aligning education with high standards and her ongoing efforts to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.
