The Aberdeen Centre for Women's Health Research (ACWHR) 5th Anniversary and International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 celebrations took place on Tuesday 7th March. ACWHR were joined by staff and students across the University and NHS colleagues in the MacGillivray Centre of the Maternity Hospital and online. Members of the public also attended the event virtually. This year’s theme was #EmbraceEquity.
Principal George Boyne opened the event and introduced H.E. Dr Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al Thani who launched the centre in 2018 and joined the event virtually to share an update on how far the Centre have come in the last five years.
We were joined by three inspiring guest speakers, Professor Lucy Chappell, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department of Health and Social Care & Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Health Research, Professor Marion Bain, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Scotland and Professor Dame Anna Dominzak, Chief Scientist Officer (Health) for Scotland. All of which were very insightful and well received by all.
Our co-directors, Professor Cruickshank and Professor Abdel-Fattah gave talks on the history of women’s health in Aberdeen as well as where we stand now as a centre and our future aspirations. Professor Bhattacharya, Head of School and Dugald Baird Chair in Women’s Health gave some reflections on the mornings talks and gave closing remarks.
On behalf of ACWHR we would like to thank our wonderful guest speakers and all of our attendees for making the day such a success!
The event was recorded and will be shared shortly on the ACWHR webpage. Until then you can contact kelly.gray@abdn.ac.uk for the link to the recording.
