Research

The Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation (ACE) shares strategic objectives with the Institute of Applied Health Sciences. The Centre’s specific aims are to work for the implementation of better health and social care, identify developments within health and social care that are effective, efficient and high quality, and explore and understand experiences of health and social care.

This work is underpinned by the Centre undertaking work with patient and public partners, undertaking capacity building, education and training, using and developing interdisciplinary approaches and leading the way with the development and implementation of new and innovative methodological approaches.

The Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation (ACE) also co-hosts the Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT), a UKCRC registered clinical trials unit, the NIHR HTA Technology Assessment Review (TARs) team and the Aberdeen-Belfast Evidence Collaboration (ABEC).

The Unit’s work is characterised by being collaborative and multidisciplinary, which involves a range of local, national and international partners.

From 1988-2024, while operating as the Health Services Research Unit (HSRU), we generated over £300 million in research funding, and positively impacted the care of over 10 million patients per year. The Centre aims to build on the excellent and world-leading work developed as HSRU, and increase our impact and reach even further.
