University of Aberdeen - 30 June 2016
Beatriz Goulão and Jemma Hudson, two of HSRU’s statisticians, were on the organising committee for the inaugural Young Researchers using Statistics Symposium which was held at the University’s Suttie Centre on Thursday 30th June 2016. The symposium was a joint initiative between the Royal Statistical Society Local Highlands Group, BioSS, and the statisticians at the University of Aberdeen. The aim was to stage an event for career-early researchers using sophisticated statistical methods to promote their research by oral and poster presentation and to network with other researchers.
Over 50 delegates attended. The symposium was opened by the HSRU Unit Director, Professor Craig Ramsay who gave an overview of what a career in statistics can look like by describing his journey from statistics undergrad to Director of the Health Services Research Unit. Attendees had the privilege of listening to ten excellent oral presentations split across two sessions; the first on Wildlife and Environment, and the second on People.
