The HSRU’s Public Engagement Group (PEG) were thrilled to be part of this year’s British Science week that took place between 11-20 March. Thenmalar Vadiveloo, David Cooper and Louise Campbell from HSRU were invited to visit Arduthie Primary school in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire to help highlight the importance of clinical trials to the P7 pupils.
After a short presentation on clinical trials the pupils were ‘randomised’ into two groups: the blue and the red group. Staying in their randomised groups, the pupils then split into teams of three or four to take part in an interactive and fun clinical trials quiz where they were asked questions about James Lind and the first clinical trial in 1747.
After the event, the pupils were asked to complete a feedback form and it was good to see that they thoroughly enjoyed the session. More importantly the results of their feedback showed that most pupils felt they had learnt about clinical trials and James Lind, with some learning ‘lots and lots’ of ‘stuff’!!
