Our latest HERU blog post looks at impact of 'shocks' on doctors' risk attitude. HERU PhD student Xuemin Zhu is researching the role of risk attitudes in the clinical and career decision making of doctors. The post looks in particular at the effect of a shock on risk attitude. A shock is defined as a negative life event, for example a bereavement or medical negligence claim. The research has identified that doctors' clinical risk attitude changes after a shock. This could be particularly important in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
