The latest HERU blog post highlights a new project that will investigate if the introduction of Minimum Unit Pricing (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland has unintended consequences for diet quality and health. The project is funded by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) and will consider if household food spending is reduced, due to spending more on alcohol, what effect this has on diet quality, if any, and the consequences for health. The project will compare any change in household spending in Scotland before and after the introduction of MUP with household spending in the North of England, where MUP does not apply.
