The 2nd Economics of the Health Workforce was hosted by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy, in association with the Health Economics Research Unit, University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
The conference was held in the beautiful Milan campus of the Università Cattolica. In the heart of Milan city centre, in Largo Gemelli, the conference venue is located within what was the Cistercian monastery next to the Basilica of Saint Ambrose.

Format
The health workforce forms the backbone of health care systems around the world. The decisions they make have major impacts on costs and health outcomes. The focus of this 2 day conference was on micro-econometric studies of health workforce supply and demand. Among the topics explored were: pay and wage setting; competition in health labour markets; human capital formation; occupation and specialty choice; career transitions; gender differences; geographic distribution of health professionals; international migration; and the evaluation of policy interventions directed at health professionals' labour markets.
The conference took the form of presentations of full papers with time for discussion. There were no parallel sessions.
This conference immediately preceded the iHEA 11th World Congress in Health Economics in Milan. However it was not affiliated to iHEA.
