Professor Bolt is a health economist at Saitama University in Japan. His current research focuses on the application and development of Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs).

Seminar Title - A DCE to support deployment of an STI PoCT device in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This presentation will introduce parallel choice experiments undertaken to support an randomised controlled trail (RCT) for a low-cost, lateral flow Point-of-Care Testing device capable of detecting a range of sexually transmitted infections. The purpose of the DCE is to inform an implementation strategy to serve the women attending rural sexual health clinics and increase the uptake of the PoCT STI testing service. (The RCT is an EDCTP funded GIFT-Africa research consortium study with study sites in Madagascar, Zimbabwe and South Africa.) The results of the choice experiments covering the PoCT STI screening test, follow-up services, and the broader health system factors across the three sites will be presented. In addition, the presentation will cover the process of DCE development and deployment in this rural African setting. The study involved extensive collaborating with site field teams in attribute/level selection and the administration of the choice experiment using localised choice cards and offline tablet data collection with an open-source platform. Also covered will be the comparison across sites and use of appropriate socio-economic status indices for respondents in these settings.
