Title: Paying for health in drug coverage decisions: why v is not Ok
Abstract: The discussion about the ‘correct’ value for the cost effectiveness threshold for decision makers like NICE, is long running and highly polarized. This seminar brings together work with Paulden, Pandey, O’Mahony and other colleagues, to argue that paying ‘v’ is destructive of social welfare and always will be. Further, the pricing behaviours of manufacturers mean that the policy cost effectiveness threshold to optimize social welfare will be less than k.
