“We are proud to be one of the most northerly institutions in the world and embrace our role as a regional university contributing to the wider community.”
Professor Neva Haites OBE, Vice-Principal for Development.
The University of Aberdeen strives to contribute to its wider community and collaboratively find the solutions to global problems.
Over the years the University has made many pioneering discoveries including the first clinical use of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanning over 30 years ago. More recently, University medical research has developed tests that identify genetic biomarkers in oesophageal cancer tumours to assist in personalising patient treatment plans.
Here at the University we conduct a wide variety of medical research programmes such as cancer research, spinal cord injury research, renal and vasculitis research, dementia research and cystic fibrosis research.
Our community of dedicated volunteer fundraisers have been extremely generous to date, having raised and donated almost £400,000 since 2010 by taking part in and organising a variety of activities. This has ranged from the Run Balmoral 10k to a Deal or No Deal night, a dance competition based on Strictly Come Dancing and class reunions. If you are thinking of taking part in the next marathon or 10km race, climbing Kilimanjaro or simply organising a fun night out with friends, then why not do so in aid of the University of Aberdeen?
