Shining Lights Scholarship Provides Yasmin with a 'Remarkable Opportunity'
2023-11-22

When Yasmin Hosseini was forced to leave her home country four years ago, the University of Aberdeen offered hope and an opportunity to continue her studies thanks to the Shining Lights Scholarship. She graduates on Wednesday November 22, 2023 with an MSc in Applied Marine and Fisheries Ecology.

Yasmin expresses her gratitude and tells us her story here.

“I wish to convey my profound gratitude for the remarkable opportunity provided by the Shining Lights Scholarship at the University of Aberdeen. Pursuing my MSc in Applied Marine and Fisheries Ecology at this globally renowned institution has proven to be a profoundly transformative experience.

“Over the past year, I have had the privilege of experiencing significant academic growth by expanding my knowledge and sharpening my practical skills in fisheries science and marine ecology. This educational journey has not only expanded my horizons but has also allowed me to reconnect with aspirations I had to set aside when circumstances forced me to leave my home country four years ago.

“My ultimate goal is to continue my educational journey, with aspirations of pursuing a PhD. However, before charting this course, I intend to gain practical experience in the field of marine ecology. This hands-on experience will enable me to refine my academic and career objectives, ensuring that my choices are well-informed and aligned with my passion.

“I extend my sincerest appreciation to the supporters of the Shining Lights Scholarship for their generous support, which has made this educational pursuit possible. While the benefactors may not fully grasp the profound impact of their generosity, their unwavering dedication has ushered in a new and inspiring chapter in my academic journey.

“I am wholly committed to making the most of this opportunity, not only for personal growth but also to effect positive change in society and the environment. I am driven by the potential of this education to bring about meaningful transformation.

“Once more, I want to express my deep gratitude for providing me with the platform to pursue my aspirations. This scholarship has enabled me to alter the trajectory of my life, and for that, I am incredibly thankful.”
