The University of Aberdeen has been ranked among the world's top universities for archaeology according to the 2024 QS Subject Rankings.
Archaeology at Aberdeen has a distinctive northern flavour, focusing on Scotland, Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Northeast Asia, the North Atlantic and high-latitude regions of North America with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes covering topics such as the origins of modern humans, colonisation of the North, history and theory of archaeology, osteoarchaeology, bioarchaeology and excavation and research skills.
In seeking to understand how ancient people lived their lives, structured their world, and engaged with their environment, we ask the big questions that can provide us with the tools to tackle global challenges in the present.
Our success in the latest QS subject rankings builds on our success in the most recent Guardian University Guide rankings, where Aberdeen ranked 4th in the UK for Anthropology and Archaeology.
