Professor Matteo Spagnolo from the University's Department of Geography and the Environment has been appointed as the new Director of the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Society and the Environment (SAGES).
With over 500 members, the organisation brings together world-leading expertise in geoscience and environmental science across 11 Scottish universities and research institutions.
SAGES’ next annual science meeting takes place at the University on the 16-17 May, where Professor Spagnolo will play a leading role.
He said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to this important role for the next three years, and particularly as the University prepares to host the next SAGES science meeting with over 100 delegates expected to attend.
“Working with my colleagues I will promote interdisciplinary research collaborations amongst SAGES members, Scottish institutions and international partners.”
