Dr Tavis Potts recently attended the UK Government Marine Science Coordination Committee (MSCC) Executive meeting in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. The remit of the MSCC is to plan, coordinate and strategically enhance UK marine science; link science and policy activities across the UK and devolved nations and authorities; set UK marine science on the world stage; and set the strategic science agenda for the marine environment. The MSCC consists of senior members of marine related UK and Devolved Departments and agencies, including but not limited to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Marine Management Organisation, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, BEIS, Natural England, JNCC, Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (NI) and Marine Scotland. In the MSCC, Dr Potts acts as a non-executive member providing specialist advice on marine (social) science, and Chairs the recently formed Social Science Task Group and the Communications Working Group. Through his role, Dr Potts is able to explore potential research projects and MSc dissertations relating to the delivery of the MSCC and its objectives.
