Faultlab

(multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional study of the lower crust beneath the North Anatolian Fault in western Anatolia)

  • Funded by UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
  • Supported by Bogazici University Istanbul (Turkey), Sakarya University (Turkey) and SEISUK
  • Co-Investigators:
    • Dr David Cornwell (University of Aberdeen)
    • Greg Houseman, Geoff Lloyd, Tim Wright and Richard Phillips (University of Leeds)
  • Project Partners: Stephane Rondenay (University of Bergen) and Andrew Frederiksen (University of Manitoba)

FIPSE

Faroe Islands Passive Seismic Experiment (Imaging the crustal structure beneath the Faroe Islands, North Atlantic)

  • Funded by Sindri, a collection of oil companies with interest in offshore Faroe Islands exploration
  • Principal Investigator: Dr David Cornwell (University of Aberdeen)
  • Co-Investigator: Richard England (University of Leicester) and Graham Stuart (University of Leeds)

Fold Thrust Research Group

From an initial Pathfinder project and field workshop (in the French Subalpine chains) we have designed a new JIP with the aim to reduce structural risks when exploring and developing hydrocarbon resources in fold-thrust belts. We bring together a leading group of structural geologists and allied earth scientists based in the University of Aberdeen with partners in the oil and gas industry to address these deficiencies.
