Once known for its rich fish population the North Sea is now suffering from intensive fish practices and rivers connected with the North Sea are blocked with man-made barriers.

EUCC-UK is the National Branch of the EUCC - The Coastal and Marine Union based in Leiden, the Netherlands. The EUCC-UK office is resident in the Aberdeen Institute for Coastal Science and Management (AICSM) at the University of Aberdeen, in the Department of Geography and Environment, School of Geosciences, College of Physical Sciences.

Machair Study Group

In 2002 the former Machair Studies Group was reconstituted within the Aberdeen Institute for Coastal Science & Management (AICSM). With the help of some financial assistance from Scottish Natural Heritage, secretarial services were provided in order to establish and maintain a database of individuals with any type of interest in Machair.

The North Sea Fish Migration Atlas

The North Sea Fish Migration Atlas an electronic atlas which combines GIS-based maps with data and information, photographs, educational materials, tutorials, software, and downloads. The atlas forms an example of the ICAN (International Coastal Atlas Network) project.
