As part of the British Science Association’s Aberdeen Branch activities for British Science Week, volcanologist Dr Luca De Siena battled, in a double-header, against glaciologist Dr Brice Rea (ably supported by the rest of the glaciology team – Dr Matteo Spagnolo, Dr Danni Pearce and Dr Ramón Pellitero Ondicol). Each protagonist had a 10 minute slot in which to captivate and persuade the audience of the primacy of his subject, with presentations repeated an hour later. At the end of each session the audience got to vote on their preferred subject. Despite some technical difficulties, the evening went well with over 350 people attending the event. The result was a close call on both occasions, but ice took the victory. Luca and Brice remain good friends and look forward to the next opportunity to sell their respective subjects!
