David Ashmore, who is studying Antarctic subglacial hydrology for his PhD research in the School of Geosciences, and is funded by a College of Physical Sciences studentship, has won the John Glen Prize for Best Student Oral Research Presentation to the 2013 meeting of the International Glaciological Society British Branch.
Speaking to an assembled delegation of approximately 100 scientists at this year's branch meeting held at Loughborough University on 4-5 September 2013, David presented a 20-minute talk entitled "The relationship between radar reflectivity and ice stream sticky spots in West Antarctica."
Each year at the close of the conference, student presentations are assessed by the Society's founder member and seminal flow-law researcher Dr. John W. Glen (founder of Glen's Flow Law which has been central to glaciology since the 1950s).
Congratulations to David pictured here receiving his award from Dr. Glen.
