Katrin Prager was invited speaker at an event organised by Teagasc (Ireland) on “Working Together for Sustainable Farming: Agri-environmental Policy, Practice and Experience” on 3 March 2021. The webinar focused on policy and policy implementation for supporting greater collaboration between farmers, advisors, scientists and policy makers.
Sandwiched between the EU DGAgri representative Inge van Oost and two local farmers presenting on their group’s work in Ireland and the Netherlands, Katrin explained challenges for cooperation across multiple levels and the key role for facilitators, social capital and trust. 55 attendees made for a busy Q&A session. Take home messages included that not all farmer groups have the same capacity to engage with policy interventions to support agri-environmental collaboration. Less established groups benefit from professional facilitation, advisory services or third party support, in particular in linking with governmental stakeholders at various levels.
