Andrew Maclaren, a PhD student jointly funded by the University of Aberdeen and the James Hutton Institute, has won the 2017 European Society for Rural Sociology (ESRS) student paper competition, which is a part of the ESRS’ biennial International Congress. This year’s 27th Congress will be held in Kraków, Poland where Andrew will receive his award at the Congress’ opening session. Andrew’s paper was titled ‘Affective Lives of Rural Ageing’ and builds on his PhD research, which he presented earlier this year. As part of winning this award Andrew will work with the ESRS to have his paper published in Sociologia Ruralis.
