Geography & Environment lecturers Dr Jean-Christophe Comte and Dr Josie Geris have recently been awarded a £70k NERC Urgency grant on “Extreme rainfall and floods in arid regions: replenishment or contamination of water resources?” The project will look at the impact on water resources of the recent extreme rainfall and flood event that took place in Botswana, with a more specific focus on water pollution. The project is led by the Aberdeen hydrogeologists/hydrologists in partnership with geologists and geophysicists from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (Palapye), hydrogeologists from the International Water Management Institute (Pretoria) and water resources managers from the Botswana Department of Water Affairs (Gaborone).
